Fact > New Zealand Is [Finally] On The Medals Table!

August 17, 2008

I should’ve posted about this last night but I was too caught up in watching the rest of the finals New Zealand had qualified for. With events getting delayed I ended up missing some of our athletes compete but what I did see was Caroline and Georgina Ever-Swindell put us on the medals table with our first GOLD medals! All of the first three medals were won in the Rowing (two bronze were secured in the single and doubles of the Mens race); since last night more have been won from what I saw of the coverage this morning so I’m assuming Valerie Vili took out the Shotput and Hayden Roulston won Silver in the 400m Men’s individual pursuit.

Glad to see our people finally making in-roads 🙂 the Ever-Swindell twins‘ win puts them in the country’s history books as two of the few to achieve back to back Gold medals at the 2004 Athens and now 2008 Beijing Games

UPDATE: New Zealand has jumped to 14th on the table after yesterday’s success 😀 – click here to read more on the specifics.
